Chaz Kao (Choreographer)
Dance was a huge influence on Chaz Kao starting at an early age. He found the freedom within the art form to be incredibly fulfilling and cathartic. The very first step he learned as a dancer was the “Moonwalk” and from there, he was hooked. Before the internet, Chaz would record every Michael Jackson performance on TV and spend hours imitating and perfecting each small detail, from a leg kick to a crotch grab. During his time in high school, Chaz performed in many community events, benefits and talent shows, in which he received many awards and accolades. After graduating from high school, he attended Cypress College where he performed and choreographed a piece in the annual “People In Motion” dance concert. He later transferred to the UC Irvine where he spent one month in New York City learning from top Broadway dancers and choreographers, under the “New York Satellite Program”, that was featured in the music theater department. Chaz is a budding hip-hop dancer and choreographer, hoping to continue to improve his craft and inspire others to find their own passion in the arts.
